Online Sports Betting Soon to become Legal, in Czech Republic

The odds seem to be in favor of the sports betting enthusiasts in the Czech Republic. The finance ministry plans to legalize internet sports in the country, soon. Czechs can now legally bet on their country, during the World Soccer cup this year. No form of online gambling is presently allowed in this country. Those who do want to gamble, go to regular casinos and betting shops. Why then, is the government suddenly letting up and allowing legal bets, online. The reason appears quite simple - the cash registers will start ringing - with this one important decision and tax revenues will go up during the upcoming largest sporting event - The World Cup! Casinos.ch reports:

"The World Cup is so big an event that even those who never bet will do so then," says František Trantina, marketing director of Fortuna, a Czech sports book company. "There’s going to be a tremendous wave of interest in this tournament, and even if it will fade away a bit after the last match, the gaming companies want to get the most from it."

The NCCA Basketball Tournament - Attracts Big Wagers

The NCCA's annual get together of more than 64 teams attracts an incredible scale of betting. Those in the tournament will never admit to this. Twenty bucks is what the accepted wager is, across the US. Betting spreads across such things as whether Southern will have a lead ever, in its game against Duke, to the chances of a no. 13 seed winning a game! One can make a few clicks with the mouse, from the privacy of one's home and get 6-5 on the bet. The NCCA is fretting and fuming about this scenario as it wants to protect the integrity of its game. However the fact remains unchanged that it makes millions of dollars in profits from this large scale betting. Simon Noble, who runs an offshore betting site - PinnacleSports.com, calls this March Madness. From students, to housewives, to senior citizens to professionals - everyone gets into the Betting Mania! Timesargus.com reports:

Call it hypocritical, but that didn't stop the NCAA from dragging out it's doom-and-gloom lines last week about how sports betting must be stopped to protect the game. Surely, though, the organization must secretly hope it doesn't get what it wants.

Most Sports Betting Exchanges in Europe Are Run by Public Entities, in Close Association With the Government

Most European betting facilities are run by public entities who have close ties with the government. One well know name is Italy's Totocalcio. It began in 1946, under the patronage of the government-affiliated Olympic Committee. The Spanish soccer system Quineila, is also operated by the state-run lottery organization.  In Germany, the betting exchange in divided up and run by the regional administrations. France's Soccer betting system was established after sports betting was legalized in 1985 and is controlled by a public corporation, funded 75% by the government.

Discussion on Sports Betting Held Between the Victorian State Government and Tennis Australia

Tennis Australia has got into a heated discussion with the Victorian state government, over the issue of sports betting. Tennis is part of a coalition of professional sports. This coalition includes cricket, rugby and soccer. The coalition met racing and gaming minister John Pandazopolous this week, to discuss sports betting. It will study the New Zealand model. Five percent of betting revenue is returned directly to the sport, there. It is to be seen whether Tennis Australia is able to configure its sports betting model the same way as that of New Zealand. Giving back a five percent for the game seems fair and in the interest of the game. the advertiser.news.com reports:
